Child Therapy Services
Children show their emotional distress differently from adults and are often not able to communicate when they are suffering. Parents have the difficult task of looking for signs that their child needs help.
Concerning symptoms that children display are:
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Attention difficulties or hyperactivity (ADD/ADHD)
- Changes in eating or sleeping patterns
- Declining grades or behavioral issues at school
- Frequent emotional outbursts
- Difficulty making or keeping friends
- Acting aggressively
TALKING TO YOUR CHILD OR TEEN ABOUT TREATMENT
Sometimes parents worry about how to tell their child that they are going to meet a therapist. This is a normal concern, and it is a good thing when a parent carefully considers how to talk to their child about psychotherapy.
Feel free to raise this concern with me, we can talk together about how to have this conversation with your child.
Play and Art Therapy
It is unusual for a child to directly talk about their emotional distress. Because of this I use play, art, games and drawings as tools when assessing and working through a child’s difficulties.
